ENGLEWOOD
LINE
Englewood line is an abandoned railroad in Chicago. It creates a feeling of fear in the adjoined areas. with a look of an elevated green line going through the city.
Project is aimed to bring it back to life. There are developed bicycle paths around it which became an inspiration for the function of the line. On a site we have created a car-free urban space with a lot of greenery, bicycle roads, residential units, park and public building.
Mies Van der Rohe Lafayette park townhouse are used to serve as residential units. Public building has a supermarket and a cafe combined with inner bike-way which goes in a shape of spiral from Englewood line level (5 m) to the ground level. In this way people can use the building's facilities or simply go down to the city.
